How often do you chrono your rifle?

Every time I target shoot at home I use it. I use the Gen 2 Caldwell and just set it on the table in front of me. Easy to do, so I just bring it out. Once in a while I get a funny shot or fall off the regulator and I can see it immediately.
When I previously used my other chrono with a tripod it was a little bit more of a pain. I drove tent stakes into the ground as markers for the legs to try to speed up/repeat the setup. The Gen 2 works well with only1.5 foot in front of the muzzle.

I'll use it when I get a new gun to set the speed and then I try not to use it unless I think there is a problem or I want to change speeds. I use to use it just because but found that it took the fun out of shooting. Everytime you see a jump in velocity it makes you wonder why it happened, is something wrong?? Even though 9 times out of 10 it was a bad pellet.

When I'm setting it up for new weight/batch of pellets. When tuning for a specific speed. And if I notice a change in trajectory. I can't use a chrony in BR and would be wasting shots(marked as misses) during a FT match if I felt the need to use one. This is why I don't run the chrony every time I practice. That and it's a PIA to set it up for ten or twenty rounds then break it all down to practice. I don't have a permanent chrony station either.

My accuracy at 25 yards is pretty much pellet on pellet. Right now I’m using an Atlas bipod and a rear squeeze bag from a stable shooting bench. At 50 yards it’s a mixed bag. Some great 5 shot groups < 0.4” and then 1.5”. I’ve cleaned the barrel, checked the stock and scope to make sure nothing is loose. I tried to do some chrony work today but the darn battery terminal broke😡 I’m working on my shooting technique with some improvement. I was limited to 25 yards today because of the wind and had mostly MOA groups. The only thing I could think of was the JSB .25 cal 25.4gr velocity issue at longer distance and the hammer spring tension change over time. After I fix my chronograph, I thought I’d test adjusting the hammer spring.

Any thoughts?

If you notice vertical stringing in your groups and you can be sure it's not you then you might have a velocity issue. The pellet moving left and down or right and up is a function of the pellets interaction with the wind. Though if the velocity swing is great enough your poi could change enough to be noticed. Otherwise the wind, even at 25yds can do funny things to pellets. An example is today at the Conn States FT match I had a few of my long shots drop 2-3 hash marks low on the target causing a miss. The next shot, aiming at the same location would result in a knock down. I asked a other shooters if they had noticed this and most had. So somewhere between the barrel and the target the wind was pushing, even slapping the pellet an inch low.

Anyways don't fear the wind. The more you learn how to shoot in it means more time behind the gun. On top of that when you can repeatedly print moa or even sub moa groups at your given range in the wind the satisfaction is even greater.

Overall I say shoot, shoot shoot(practice and worry about the chronograph and barrel cleaning and pellet sorting until your are confident in being able to call your fliers.

Results after just a pull patch then the Patch Worm.

Right after a clean with 5-10mph wind at 50 yards.

Next card.

I was just talking to another forum member on how my RAW .25 was getting erratic with more flyers than I should have. After chasing MY tail...... I have always used a fiber rod with a nylon patch tip (no metal in barrel) with good results in all my guns. I decided to order a Patch Worm kit and do the really hard cleaning just like Steve did on the AEAC video.
The picture above is my plugs after a regular cleaning was done. The patch and felt plug pulled through a lot harder and showed the dark black line of the rifling. Within a few shots the gun just tightened up and shot perhaps as good or better than it ever has. I was actually shocked that it worked that well.
Maybe not your issue at all but a suggestion. The other picture above is right after the cleaning shooting 50 yards in 5-10 mph wind non sorted. The first two were to get few pellets down it to season it. The others have at least 5 shots each. We have had 25 mph winds for the last several days and want I to concentrate and get some further results. Either way it is working for me. Keep us posted with your results.
BTW for those who buy a PW get the extra large length for the long RAW.
One other thing..... If I'm not mistaken from the factory the hammer spring is all the way in then backed out two turns.

I have the Caldwell G2 as well. Man I love that Chronograph. I just plug it in to my electrical outlet with the handy adapter that comes with it, sit it on the end of the picnic table the long way and blast away. Don't have to worry about batteries ;-) Not geek savvy enough to use the smart phone app ;-)

Exactly how I have mine setting.
The app is really works well. I have had good success with it on an Android.

Now you guys have me thinking on several things. When I got my Airwolf, I had done enough research to know its sweet spot is at about 210 bar or so. Good thing, that's about all my 3300 PSI scuba would but in it. I can get (depending on ambient) 60 shots per fill or just short of 1.1 bar per shot. I can fill it to 230bar when at a friends range and have done so numerous times, but notice the first 5 shots + or - are useless for accuracy. Now that its cooler I can't get a fill past 195. So need to check velocity.
I am ordering a CF tank and am going to nitro instead of air as well.
