This big chap off one of the feeders at 20 yards - Heart & lung shot with JSB Exact Jumbo, (15.89gr), dropping him with instant lights out.

I’m using H&L shots more often at these closer ranges; extremely effective, with much less drama and mess from the head shots.

The FX Impact has proven itself time and time again in the field

"skohl"I aim for heart - lung shots now when I go after ground squirrels. Lot less blood than a head shot. That tells me they die a lot quicker. Your thoughts?

Generally speaking, most of my fellow shooters appear to favour the head shot.
Here is one I previously dispatched with solid hit, pinning it to the tree whilst feeding, (.22 Crosman Premier Hollow point).

However, I have found that a well placed shot to the boiler room will fold them over very quickly, without all the jumping around with nerves shutting down, that a head shot can often produce.

Ultimately, a well placed pellet in either of these locations, will humanely do the job.
