Day 5 - INDOOR SHOOTING RANGE

My friends that know me well will recall that I have been talking about an indoor shooting range for a couple of years. This week it’s going to happen! I have a metal building that is 45’ wide by 60’ long. That will give me almost a 20 yard range. I plan to make it 8’ wide and 8’ tall. I also want to place a protected camera down range near my targets and a monitor near my shooting bench. At the end of this range I have another garage door that I can raise and shoot an even greater distance. Eventually I will have targets out to 100 yards. I want to go greater distances but the downward slope of my property may not allow this unless I somehow raise my targets. How many times have you wished for a day to truly zero your windage? Looking forward to the next few days. If you have any suggestions be sure to post them. If I like them and can, I’ll make the changes. This view looks from down range. I plan to take a picture each day from this position.

That'll be useful during those cold days (or to verify your zero without any wind)! Good lighting and a mini-split air conditioner would be nice.

Perhaps a small table to keep some snacks on and a fridge to keep a couple cold ones for when the shooting is done!!

The mini-split has been ordered & it will be insulated within an insulated building.

Thx theLBC, hadn’t really thought about a vent. Thinking it would be best to have one near the target.

Ventilation mainly is for air to move and not remain stagnant, which leads to smells, moisture collection and what not. Anytime you add an air handling device it’s good to have some way to get you air changes, and ventilation is a good inexpensive way to assure it.

One wall up, attached at bottom plate and strapped to pearling at the top. 8’ high & 8’ wide.

Why the new wall? I'd keep it simple and concentrate on the back stop and shooting station, oh PS make sure JT pitches in to the project. He'll be making one holes all the way to the exterior.

2 sides up and we are putting on the ceiling joists. Aiming down range.

Day 2 is finished and I am tired. We have the range framed out. We drilled into the concrete & set our bolts, & we also screwed metal tabs to properly secure the studs. Tomorrow we will make a run to Lowes to pick up more materials. I should buy some knee pads.

Almost at the end of day 2. Ceiling installed.

Going to have sheet metal on a pivot so that I can open it & shoot out the back door. It’s being designed as we speak. Thinking about a wheel & axle with a heavy bearing to carry the load. Will even put a wheel at the end to help carry the load if needed. Want some type of pellet catch to deal with the lead too.

Day 2 has ended & I’m beat! Install OSB on the ceiling. Cut holes & installed lighting. May not have enough lights. Will insulate on day 3 & install more OSB. Rick will start on stringers for the steps. Plan to deck the top & use it for storage.

Looks great! Seeing the pics made me think about how much lumber/wood products have gone up in price recently. (sigh)

Day 3 and I am beat. The shooting lane is built. We insulated all sides and the ceiling. I have plywood installed outside. Will also deck the top and use for storage. Built a 14 step stairway to access the top. Want to put a camera up front & have a monitor at the shooting bench. Will cover the inside walls with plywood tomorrow. Will be shooting in it by the weekend!
