Competition practice????

I have a few questions for the ( tournament) competition bench rest shooters, from someone who has never shot " AIRGUN " competitively but hopes to next year...

1. At What ranges ( distances) are the typical matches held for each stage?

2. Where can i find the standards and rules for events.

3. Does one have to qualify or is it on an entry basis?

4. Is there a traditional springer \ spri air bracket.?

Any and all info is appreciated.

I'm a match director for N50 events so my responses will deal specifically with N50.

3. No, just show up for the match
4. You can shoot any airguns in .177 - .30 cals, PCP or Springers. PCPs are the most popular though for benchrest shooting.

Go to a match or two this year and watch and ask questions. Most shooters are more than willing to answer most questions and some may let you shoot their guns after the match is over.

I agree go to a match . first match i attended i drove a day b4 and stayed at a hotel , went to the match and drove home after . Yes it was worth the trip .

If I were you I'd start by looking for airgun benchrest competition in all of the states you are willing to travel to. The affiliation of those shoots will drive everything else.

You definitely have to be careful on the equipment side. A 25y airgun benchrest gun in .177 will not be worth shooting in a 50y airgun/rimfire format.

To OP: Re - Competition Practice
Train and practice the longest possible distance you have available, but a good start is 100 y for preparation if you want to compete in 50.
A ring is a ring, and every ring have a center no matter how far out is placed.
Shoot practice a lot until all the aiming affecting technique becoming subconscious. When you close your eyes and you can see the pellet is hitting the center - you ready...
Train in hard way in hard days, don't be lazy waiting for weather that cooperates

Hey Grunt,
Train for the discipline; real "benchrest" or shooting from on "top of the bench". There is a difference.

Some start at 25m competitions to learn the basics, graduate/expand to 50y competition, then move to 100y for fun or when AG technology is better. Finally pick what distance you like.
But, like others have said before, shoot in real competitions to learn, and others will teach you.
#1, flags are your best friend.

Try several types of Air gun matches. I started with Field Target and I now only shoot Benchrest. Lou is correct, flags are your best friends, if you listen, they will tell you everything you need to know.

Probably your are about the same distance to us in Blair County Pa. If your a Springer shooter we have a once a month indoor bench match at 40 paper silhouette. We shoot the NRA 50ft target at 20 meters, 66 ft, off the bench with rests allowed front and rear. We reduce that target 20 percent. 1 point for hitting each animal plus a .5 bonus if the entire pellet is inside the animal. Look under Traditonal Forum for Central Pa Airgun Match. We get about 10 shooters as an average occasionsally a dozen. Springer only. We get mostly TX200s and 97s but have had LGUs and D75s also. We payback cash. 10.00 to shoot and half goes to payouts. Most matches are the 4th weekend of the month. I will add a pic but the July match is moved back 1 weekend to the third Sat. The majority of our shooters are capable of winning. We have all pushed each other to be better shooters.
