Auto Safety On The HW 97K

Hopefully I won't get booted off the forum for even asking this question!

I just received the HW 97 I ordered from Krale. Great gun, very accurate, the only bad thing about it is the auto safety. Does any one know how/if it's possible to disable the auto safety feature on these rifles? I have searched extensively, nothing. Either it's impossible, very difficult or no one wants to risk the legal issues.

Not sure about disabling it, but I am pretty sure if you search on Krale they sell a "reset-able" safety for that gun. So, it would be logical that you could either replace it with the new one, or in your case remove it all together. Not sure if the gun would work properly after removing the safety bolt all together. Try a YouTube search and see what you get. On the other hand, you could just learn to live with it. Most people, including myself, get used to it rather quickly. I took apart the trigger group on my LGV and frankly wish I did not. There are lots of little parts and springs in there that you can mess up. While I learned a lot from the experience, not sure I would do it again. Hope this helps.

The anti bear trap is different than the auto safety button. The anti bear trap does not prevent the barrel from slamming shut, it just prevents you from pulling the trigger. Unfortunately it also prevents you from decocking the gun. I removed the one on my Crosman Venom because of that reason. You should ALWAYS have a firm grip on the barrel when loading a pellet to prevent the barrel from slamming shut in the event of a trigger failure. I cringe every time I see someone letting go of the barrel. See it all the time on youtube video's.

That's interesting information . I cock the gun with my left hand and then load a pellet with my left I would bet most people do???? How would you suggest we handle these guns in a safer manor .

If you are a right hander cock with your left and load with your right while your left hand is still holding on to the barrel/ cocking lever while the butt rests on your hip/ thigh depending on shooting position. The moment you close the barrel/ latch after a while it becomes second nature to depress the safety with your right hand while shouldering and then your right hand settles in its shooting grip. It really does become second nature.

I think the best auto safeties are on the tang/ end of receiver tube. You can depress the safety without even changing your right hand grip.

The problem that I have with the HW 97 safety is that when you push the safety OFF to fire and for some reason that you do not fire the rifle I cannot return the rifle to SAFE is there a problem here or all the HW 97's that way?

Safety will re-engage if you cock the gun again. Just bring the barrel down all the way, only this time don’t insert another pellet, just close it back and the safety will be on.
