Well after doing some search yes the wood most likely beech. It seems beech trees are native to Asia as well as Europe. The reason I ask was because I,m refinishing a AEA standard stock & it helps to know the type of wood you are working with.
FWIW, I've found Beech doesn't take stains well. May be the reason many (most) Beech stocks are finished in what I consider essentially walnut-colored paint.
Yes you are right about that.I,m thinking about a pine tar finish with heat. I have several milsaps I have done & I like the way they turned out. Just not sure as yet though?
