AEA Challenger stock refinishing

AEA Challenger stocks are beautiful just as they come. But i can not leave some things alone. I have finished so many stocks in my life time I lost count. But this stock
Has some thing.I have never come across. The butt pad seems to be glued on in stead of them attaching it with screws. I hate to prying it off but I see no other option.

But if that is indeed what I must do then I most likely will use some type of adhesive attaching it back.We are talking bounding plastic to wood.. Are there any here that can advise me of a
good glue to use?

Just tape around it and move on. No need to remove it.

I have given that some thought. But the process I use requires heat.
