AA Walnut

I just couldn’t resist any longer.
Twebster posted this stock in the classifieds back in January.

I held out as long I could, and then caved.
It arrived today, very well packaged.

Photos just cannot relay its beauty.

He has a 510 for sale last I looked. I will not look again, no no.

AA walnut stocks are something else. They always look great in pictures but then you get them in your hands and uts even better than you hoped. Congrats on the new gun

What do you guys put on your AA walnut stocks, if anything. They don't have much of a finish on them, and I like that look much better than the shiny urethane look, but I wonder if they need some sort of protection.

I asked Custom stock UK that question and they said Danish oil. Now there is quite a few with many different ingredients that would give different results .

I no plans for now..

Watco Danish oil, or make your own with equal parts of boiled linseed oil, mineral spirits and polyurethane varnish. I use shotgun patches to apply and wipe off because they are lint free.

AA has some of the nicest walnut for sure. You got a nice one there! Personally, I really like Royal London Oil. It's easy to apply, and you can get exactly the sheen you want.

I just sold a AA400SL in walnut. It is beautiful. Great wood and great checkering.

If you use the Watco, which is a good product, please dispose of the rags properly. They can spontaneously combust. I own a woodworking shop and I know of 2 competitors that had a fire and oily finish rags were the cause.

IMO no one makes a "prettier" gun than AA. Daystate(another English brand) comes close.

I've considered some of the oils, but have always been afraid it would darken, or otherwise change the wood.
