A day of maintenance

It’s been about a year and a half maybe, since I’ve built my rubber mulch bucket traps and posted up my fabrication steps on them. Those things have seen a lot of shots, and if I had to guess, close to 11,000. Ive kept them alive by hammer and vice, fixing them up each time I empty out the pellets. Well, after awhile it comes to a point where the metal is just too beat up to try and repair-

So I recently reached out to my go to buddy who runs the sheet metal shop I worked 13 years for, and asked him to rebuild me the saddle taps but this time out of 18ga,(last batch was 22gage)and I wanted the seams all tack welded vs spot welded.

One of the things I missed in the first design was the natural taper of a bucket so on my old batch my targets were always slightly pointed down. This time I allowed for that slope so my targets will always face me straight on now-

The last upgrade I designed up was a protective frame, to protect the 1” outside flanges from getting beat up. My buddy made them out of 3/16” plate steel and they fit up perfect-

So here’s three of them all done up, repainted, and ready to take on another few thousand rounds but this time they’ll last longer!

Oh, so here’s typically how many pellets are in one of these buckets when it’s time to clean them out and sift the mulch away from the pellets. The inverted garbage can lid works perfect as the heavier lead settles at the bottom and makes sifting out the rubber mulch for reuse.

Anyone here on AGN have a special day or moment when it’s time to go maintain your target set ups?
