75 Yards group thread

Shot these groups after getting home from work this evening. Winds were pretty light, but still existant. High group 1.048 CTC, Low group .368 CTC (.5 MOA!!), Average .671 CTC. FX Royale 500 shooting JSB Heavies around 845 fps at 75 yards. Here's pictures of the smallest, largest and all groups.

I don't know how you guys shoot so well. It drives me crazy. I was shooting at 100 yards and the best I could do is 2.25 inches. Maybe my 12 power hawke scope needs an upgrade. I am out of mil dots at that range. Plus i have a strong cross wind 24 hours a day but even when it slows and stays somewhat steady I am not that good. But i will keep trying.

Critta, in my experience, 100 yards is difficult. I find it more difficult from 75 than 75 is from 50. I was shooting great at 50 yards and then went to 100 and like you. 2 - 3" CTC. Not very fun! So I'm now shooting at 75 and doing better. Once I feel as comfortable (or nearly as comfortable) at 75 as I did at 50, then I'll try 100 again.

When I first started shooting my .177 at 50yd for groups they were in the 2"-3" group size. Now anything more than an inch and I'm not happy. It takes time and practice. The best piece of advice I can give you is to not shoot too much. Each time you shoot to improve your skills concentrate on one aspect only and forget the rest. What I mean is that for one session work on trigger pull. The next session work on breathing. The next session work on sight picture. The next session work on should pressure etc Each detail you can do while shooting without having to think about gives you more space to concentrate on things like the wind(likely the most important aspect of shooting). Of course there are more aspects to shooting than those but they are simply an example. Once you can take yourself out of the equation, or at least know when you are at fault and not the gun the tighter and more consistent your groups/targets will be. The most important thing to remember is that airguns aren't fire arms and cannot be treated the same way.

"chasdicapua"Nice shooting Ken. 100 yards is a real tester. But shouldn't you be practicing for Slovenia?!!!
LOL oh i am buddy, spent 8 hours on the pellet air sizer last week, been testing pellet head sizes, figured out what my barrel likes., doing some indoor testing this week to verify perfection. I got enough pellets for Slovenia and Nationals from a good lot.

Shot these groups at 75 yards today. FX Royale 500 shooting sized and weighed Heavies at 840 fps. Hawke Airmax 30 8-32 x 50 scope. Wind was light around 2 - 5 mph.

I was being lazy and didn't want to refill and the the rifle dropped off the regulator on target 6 (top right). Avg. CTC .726 High .992 Low .558. Pictue of all groups and largest and smallest group.

75yds) these were 10 shot groups because I was determining head size preference (5.54) For me those are very good groups! I have a .30 cal barrel for this gun also, have not played with it yet!(this gun was originally a .30 then converted to .22 by Martin about 6-8mo ago, so not really sure what REG. Is in gun right now maybe the same?, need to try & get ahold of someone who might know? I don’t think Martin takes calls or Emails now?
