Please advise on best choice of pellets for my Air Rifle

You will most likely receive lots of advice about pellet brands and shapes. My recommendation is that you use any dome head (diablo) pellet that is a medium weight (about 8.5g) to get you started

New shooter looking at Walthers and Weihrauchs in Australia

I have owned both brands of break barrels. Both have excellent rifles but at the end of the day it comes down to you trying the various models (LGV, HW50S etc etc) to see which feels best for you.

    pellet skirt question

In my opinion it is most likely the head. But if in doubt you could resize the head to then compare the results. A pelletgage could be used for sizing.

Tejas Noob Looking for Retailer Advice

Like you I am many hours from an airgun retailer and it does make buying very challenging. Although I live in NZ I have purchased from both AOA and Pyramid ( the shipping costs were huge). Both retailers were excellent though and I had no problems what so ever.

    New Air Arms TX200 Mk3

The Tx200 arrived safely and is scoped up. I opted for the walnut stock. Some users of the TX200 may not be aware that unlike the beech stocks, the walnut stock needs to be conditioned in some way at least once per year to prevent shrinkage etc. You can us an oil like Danish oil, though I...

    Advice

There really is no correct answer to your question - which is one of the reasons there are so many air rifles on the market. A good start is to go along to a local club and see if the members will allow you to try their rifles. Or alternatively try a few different ones at your local retailer...

Best Value On a Break over

All of the brands mentioned, including Walther have very good break barrel rifles.

    New Air Arms TX200 Mk3

Thanks. You have a very nice rifle indeed. Mine arrived this afternoon and is now sitting in the rack after having the stock with waxed with bees wax. I will leave it like that until the weekend, to allow the wax to penetrate the stock, and I will then fit the scope. Because I mainly shoot...

    New Air Arms TX200 Mk3

Well, Monday has come and gone with no sign of the Tx200 arriving. But the supplier has been really great by sending me photos of the walnut stock rifles that have just arrived in store, so I was able to select the one I liked most. That really is a great service.

    Scope mounting kit!!!!

I too have just purchased this kit, although the price was somewhat higher than you pay in the US. A really nice piece of kit that I am looking forward to using when I next mount a scope.

    Findlay Airgun Show

Wow, you are so fortunate to have access to these shows. Here in NZ we really don't have anything quite as grand.

    New Air Arms TX200 Mk3

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I can hardly wait until Monday for it to arrive. I ordered the .177, as I thought it would be more versatile for both FT, indoor paper targets, and small prey hunting.

    New Air Arms TX200 Mk3

After a great deal of research and thought, I have decided to invest in an Air Arms TX200 Mk3 with a walnut stock. It arrives Monday week. I have never owned such a costly spring powered rifle before, so I am taking a leap of faith that it will be as great as all the reviews claim it to be...

    Pellet head size

I agree, Alan. Like you I have been around long enough to know that there is so much myth and marketing hype in the sport to make it difficult to identify fact from fiction. Some of the newer high tech air guns may be influenced by pellet head size, but my old favourites certainly are not. A...

new shooter have trouble with accuracy

Often it is not the rifle, but rather a change in shooting technique that is the problem - as most of today's modern air rifles shoot better than the owner can. There are some great reads about shot patterns with an accompanying diagnosis of what the cause of the wayward shots may be; that you...
