The tick are bad this year in Tennessee too! The vinegar and also works well to get the tick off of the dogs (even with the high dollar flee and tick collars).
Don't get an Objective Len greater than 50 mm. The 50 mm captures more light than your can use. They are a bugger to fit on the gun too. 40 mm usually is about the best all around objective size. And yes I do like flip up lens covers...
I think the price point is what a lot of manufactures go for. In the area I live in now. If there is a lesser quality item a Walmart for $1.00 less than a quality then a quality item next door for $1.00 more, they will go to Walmart. A lot of people here will buy that lesser quality item over...
I used this for my last refinish. The only thing I did differently was I put on several coats of BLO oil sanded down to 400 grit before I applied the antique finish. After the antique finish I buffed it with a buffing system (Beal) that applied carnuba wax.
