HW95- .177 or .22 and why?

I have the r9 version. I prefer the .177 for flatter trajectory.

I have two HW95s in both .177 and .22caliber. I shoot both and enjoy both. As far as which one is better that is really up to you. For hunting or pest control I would go with the .22. As already stated above the .177 shoots flatter. At 90 yrds the .177 drops about 13" from point of aim and the . 22 drops about 20" .

My air guns are used only for back yard target shooting and both calibers have proven very accurate but I prefer the .22. Nothing really scientific about my preference. I just like making a bigger "thunk" .

I do have a superb RWS 34P in .177 with a 12 fpe Vortek kit to complement my .22 R9. This little 34 is a pretty darn accurate little gun. No buzz or twang. A little more recoil than I expected but not a very hold sensitive gun.

We will see how the new R9 .22 goes. I have a new muzzle loader to wring out at the range as well, I figure these guns will complement each other nicely.

Just don't shoot the muzzle loader in your backyard at squirrels ! I have a stock RWS 34P (wrapped in a Classic stock) in .22cal that is stock. Very accurate and 17+ ft lbs to complement that accuracy.

I have sold off enough to pay for what I want. At this point I am selling just to make room in the safe. But I am putting it off until I get these guns and scopes shipped out.

In the meantime, what do ya’ll think is best in an HW95- .177 or .22, and why?

I'd probably go. 22cal but depends on what you want it for. Small game...22cal.

Well hell. I just ordered the R9 in .22 off straight shooters because I could not find an HW95 or R9 in .22 in stock anywhere else. Ordered a pellet sampler to go with it. And now I come back and everyone is dogging it in .22!! Oh man!

I did get a deal. $399, free shipping.

BryanH,

Don't worry. I've been shooting my HW95 in .22 caliber for over 3 years and get excellent accuracy. The reason I bought my second HW95 was because this first one shot so well.

Although I have not tried a lot of different pellets the ones I have tried all shot great including the cheap 14.3gr Crosman Primiers. Lots of people recommend the H&N Field Target Trophy pellets in 14.66gr in .22 for the HW95 and they have also shot great in my rifle so don't worry you won't be dissapointed.

For 400 bucks you got a good deal. Twice in the last two months I've seen prices go up on that model.
