Air Venturi 4500 psi compressor won't pressurize

Mine made that same noise. I assumed it was normal. Hopefully someone will post a better answer for you. I ordered a Tuxing from Veradian Air to use as a back up. Hard to say how long the repair of the AV4500 will take.

Well today the black sludge is coming out of my second compressor. It is still building pressure but the flutter sound is getting worse. So I am sure this one will be toast soon. This one maybe has 2 hours of use on it. The last one lasted about the same. Do I just have bad luck or are these compressors just a waste of time and money?

I contacted Pyramid Air and complained about the air compressor going bad in a short period of time. They contacted Air Venturi about the repair and reported back that it would be 3 weeks. A lot less time than I anticipated. My experiment with the Tuxing as a back up was not good. The water separator filter that I bought from them leaked when installed so I replaced it with the small one that came with the unit. I pumped up a scuba bottle for 2000 to 3000 lbs last night. This afternoon when I started to fill an empty tank the unit would not build pressure. I suspect it may have overheated yesterday. Water was flowing to it from a full 5 gallon bucket, the temperature gauge was all over the place, not sure it is accurate? The water flow appeared ok, the water in the bucket was warming. I bought it threw amazon, and I did buy the warranty so I am hoping I can get some parts or my money back. I have no luck with compressors, that's for sure. Hopefully the AV will get back soon and I can get some use out of it. Is there one out there that is reliable that does not cost 4k?

I think what the fluttering burst are is the combustion of the oil leaking by the high pressure seals. Maybe it's the combustion that turns it black, not 100% sure but it sounds feasible. Mine had done that before when I was having issues with the black sludge and lack of full compression. Fortunately after the seal replacement I've never heard that noise again, knock on wood. If you do get the black goo be sure to flush out the filter tower with solvent and thoroughly dry it.

When a user gets black goo ejected from the moisture valve it indicates that the crankcase oil level was overfilled or improper oil was used.. An ounce too much is all it takes. Never fill above the top of the red dot. It's better to be in the center of the red dot than above the max fill level. Extra oil gets cooked on the high pressure side. It gets baked onto the two check valves in the upper cylinder and it also wears out the synthetic high pressure piston seals in short order.

Sad to say but the cost of two Chinese $1,000 compressors where one is purchased as the backup after the first one fails would practically pay for a high quality dive compressor that gives reliable service and no "plug and pray" headaches. This hobby is supposed to be fun; not worrying about servicing breakdowns.

I recently had the same intermittent noise and black residue coming out of the bleed valve on a one week old AV compressor. Contacted PA who put me in touch with an AV tech. He said the noise can be from too much oil or a seal going bad. The black residue from the bleed valve is proof that a seal is bad. Sent that one back and the replacement was delivered last week. Did the 10 minute break in with the new one and then tested the shutoff with the dead head. The pressure built in the line for maybe 10 seconds and then a blue rubber plug shot out of the side of the pressure gauge along with a jet of oil. That compressor was sent back yesterday.

I think I am finished with these compressors. I stop by the local paintball field and talked to the owner about filling my tanks and a recommendations on what to buy. He used large commercial units, but made some suggestions. He also had a few units that might be for sale, I am going to meet with him in a few days. What higher quality compressor would you recommend, I am going to end this problem. In fact when the AV comes back, I am not even going to open the box, I may put it for offers on the forum.

Sorry to hear that. Not good news for me. When mine comes back I am not even going to open the box. I may explain the situation and put it up for offers. I am going to get something that will last at least a year or two and one that parts and assistance is easily available. I just don't have time to fight what sounds like may be a never ending battle.

One thing I can say don't bother with Tuxing I have their large 4500 Air compressor and it's been nothing but problems. I tried to return it when it would not work. They refused to and required me to do the repair before they would return so I tried to fix it and still never worked. They still refuse to replace it or return it. they just want me to troubleshoot a brand new compressor over and over. so now they can talk to AMEX about their chargeback.

AV sucks. sent back the 3rd one since Christmas and settled for a Hill. So far ... so good with the Hill. PA was great about it though, they paid round trip shipping on all 3 compressors and still sent me back a full refund. Have no idea how PA makes any money on selling the AV 4500 with problems like we have experienced.

I loved it for the first 7 months but for the last 3 months I have been going back and forth with China to fix an intermittent problem. Most of the time when I turn it on it won't build pressure but everything sounds ok. Once in awhile when I turn it on it will build pressure to 4350 psi / 300 bar and shut off just like it should. Their first advice was to rebuild the high pressure side. I'm waiting for my 3rd shipment of parts to replace the electrical control box on the compressor. It takes about 30 days from agreeing on a next step to receiving the parts in hand. Very frustrating. I did buy the warranty through Amazon so we'll see where this goes after the factory warranty expires.

Thanks I did contact them and $70 later. They're sending me the three o-rings rings and the tool, think it's a bit much considering what you got to pay for something I used maybe 20 hours in 3 years I wouldn't recommending this compressor.

Yup, way out of range for the three seals and a cone shaped tool, easily replaceable with something else, btw, I wouldn't recommend it either. Still using mine after several years but what a PITA!!!

Tired of paying the outrageous price to PA for the high-pressure seals, I tried these and sure enough they do work. A little tighter fit when sliding the cylinder over the piston. Initially it did get a little warmer, quicker. I haven't used it since, but I feel like they just need to size themselves for a while to the cylinder bore. As far as the tool that PA sells it is nice since it has the cone shaped seal spreader and then it comes with a sizer to squeeze the new seals back into the grooves of the piston.
