Anyone else spent way too much money on this hobby?

I think I've been doing the same thing since I was a kid. Which is to find something I want, realize I can't afford it right now and then I save up for it. Not kidding. I have an old 5 gallon glass carboy that holds the drippings from my cash transactions; pretty much all of my local, face to face shopping. Usually, by the time I can afford what I wanted, I want something else. I've spent a lot of money (for me) on airguns, but not too much. That would imply some level of regret.

I'm Springer only except for a couple of pumpers and a few co2. When I started into this hobby ten or twelve years ago I ordered cheap Crosman springers then the Turkish variety mainly refurbs and Chinese clones and tinkered to make them better. After acquiring ten or so and putting cheap UTG and Hammer scopes on them it still wasn't as expensive as one of the better PCP rifles with the necessary accessories.
Then after I was given two german made Weihrauch rifles by a now banded member on another forum I discovered that quality definitely counts both on rifles, scopes, and pellets.

I've advanced in the hobby, acquiring twenty four rifles but now, 99% of the time, I shoot almost exclusively only six air rifles. A Diana 34.177, Diana 460-.22, Beeman R7-.177, Beeman R9-.177, Weihrauch HW50-.22, and my favorite my Weihrauch HW97K-.177. Those are fitted with Hawke Airmax scopes. I've found the preferred pellet in each of these and have purchased thousands of those pellets.

I thoroughly enjoy what I have now, and I think I'm satisfied with no plans to increase the herd.

The money spent early on, was a learning experience, the tinkering was fun and informative, now I just shoot and enjoy, tinkering when necessary.

I have no regrets, well only a few regrets LOL, but money well spent.

I used to spend a lot more money shooting Trap. The travel to events, lodgings, food, shotgun shells and shot guns. It all added up really quickly. I thought I was saving money by not buying a bass boat.

Pellet rifles are still cheaper but I do miss the Trap shoots. They were a hoot. Made a lot of friends and managed to hit some clays once in awhile.

Whatever you spend your money on you cannot take it with you. Enjoy your time and your hobbies, no one gets out alive. 😀

I still have and shoot many firearms, but like many others, I've cut way back on shooting them over the past few years due to rising ammo and reloading component cost. I've transferred the dollars I used to spend on firearms/ammo to airguns and all the necessary accessories. I've been into airguns since I was a kid, but it's only been in the last few years that I've begun to invest in more higher-end quality airguns.

I love my Weihrauch and Diana springers, and the older vintage air pistols I've been collecting. I've really learned to love the relative silence, lack of recoil, and accuracy of rifles like my HW98 and D48. I don't really miss not shooting firearms that much, and I don't mind the cash outlay for my steadily growing airgun collection.

I think they're a great investment, and with the low cost of airgun ammo, I shoot them a whole lot more. Most importantly, they're damn fun!

It all depends on who you ask. I did sell my boat yesterday to keep things afloat. My problem is, I’m
running out of room. Have 4 beautiful rifles on order as I write this. Can’t take it with you. Crow
Exactly , this is what retirement is all about, doing what you want to do (or preparing for retirement if you still working ) "you can't take it with you" unless you have a vary large coffin .😎

Hobby expense is a relative thing..

Some have mentioned boats, never ending money pit
Golf, good lord this is a rabbit hole of epic proportions
Trophy wife, well that's on you bud, you should have known better....

In my case it was 30 years driving race cars, specifically Dirt Late Models, you want to talk stupid money, venture down that yellow brick road...

So air guns are relatively cheap in the grand scheme of things

I have a friend that has more property and money than God. Just replaced a TV from the 80’s ya the 80’s, electrohome. Complain, endless. Never married, never left home.
But he’s dying, he would have lived but because Covid started couldn’t have surgery. Has an aggressive Cancer. He’ll drive 50 miles to save 5 dollar's. Hasn’t been at his cottage in 5 months. Busy selling his stash. He has 16 trailers filled. How much is enough? I don’t get it. He thinks I’m crazy with rifles. To each his own.
Life’s a blur, 1 spin around the dial. No regrets. Crow
Oh, my boat I sold, the guy was blown away by my range. Long story short, he asked if he could come back to shoot and I’ll hook him up with a rifle?

.Guilty Guilty Guilty, i am guilty of falling down the deep crater with all of my hobbies from 60 yrs of hot rods , 50 yrs of collecting electric guitars & amplifiers, & then the air guns , & compressors, i finely got the last hot rod (2013 caddy CTS V 734 RWhp ..4 of the same amps =Carvin V3 's 60/100 watt & 3 channels & have been stuck on my fav guitars ( BC Rich BICH's for the last 20 yrs ,& over 20 pcp's & forgot how many co2's any ways i am pretty sure that i have my last a/gun = GK1 pistol /CARBINE, now i have to get time to shoot it more ( hard to do , trucking season starting up) & start selling off everything else, at least i don't have to worry about digging up coffee cans anymore, sorry for long rambling post, roger

Golfing was super expensive..the equipment, the golf course fees ..the stupid balls...the 19th hole...ugh
Knives is more a passion than a hobby. Lots spent on forges, grinders, sanding belts, and handle materials($$$) ..on hold til i get a new shop
Watches..taste exceeded my wallet fast ..love the movements and dials
Just knives and air rifles for me ...And i will take them with me. I'll have a seal bag of o-rings too...lol ;)
