Dead Chicken

I don't know what happens when chickens find pellets, but i just found out what happens when they swallow empty 22lr casings, dead chicken. Now i guess i should look for a used metal detector, do they work on brass???
Sorry about your chicken.
Yes, they work on brass, lead, gold, and silver too.
I imagine lead pellets would probably be just as lethal as brass ??
If your interested in a older, Whites Coinmaster for $70 shipped let me know and I will post a ad in the classified section with photos.
I have found 2 gold rings, 1 huge silver 925 ring, a rusty Buck 110 pocket knife, numerous Hot Wheels cars, lead bullets, and well over $100 worth of coins, hunting periodically over a 2 year period, but now its simply collecting dust.
Again, sorry about your chicken.

most birds will eat small rocks and pellets and casings to aid digestion. The problems with chicken eating lead pellets is they die a slow death and since most people keep chickens for eggs they just got some heavy breakfast. If shooting near chickens definitely use lead free tin pellets. They banned shotgun lead pellets because the spent pellets would poison all the water fowls in mass.

I heard of Condors dying from eating animals that were shot, they ate the lead from the dead animal.

Yes, all birds of prey are very sensitive to lead poisoning due to high acid digestive system. Condors and vultures have the strongest stomach acid and they eat dead animals like the one hunters kill but could not retrieve. I see a lot of people calling it a lie out of complete ignorance! Anyone knows bullets made of lead knows that lead bullets fragment due to how soft lead it is. Why is there a copper jacket around lead? Because the lead bullet will disintegrate before it leave the barrel. As a hollow point hits the animal and opens at high speed the lead fragments into tiny pieces in the meat everywhere. Yes, I know this first hand. I don't care about hunting regulations, if I'm going to eat what I shoot with a PB it will be with a solid copper core hunting bullet! Better terminal performance and no heavy metal steak/sausages for me please.

The good part of airgun and black powder using sub sonic rounds is that the lead projectile doesn't disintegrate due to low energy on impact. I enjoyed the rabbits I killed with my little pellet gun using lead ammo.
