N/A Springer vs Pumper

Interesting thread. I've had many springers (HW30, HW50s, Beeman C1, Beeman R10, RWS 24, RWS 34) and only 2 pumpers (Sheridan Blue Streak and Silver Streak). Also, almost all of my shooting is without a rest.

In the 80's and 90's I went down the rabbit hole with springers. I bought into the "fine German craftsmanship" (and they were), but I was consistantly more accurate with the pumpers. The Williams peep on the Sheridans was a killer combo for me. I didn't miss often.

With the springers I would usually miss more than hit. But I was in denial and was sure the $$$ springers were superior to the $ pumpers. Maybe so, but not in my hands. (Of course YMMV.)

The only springer I still own is my 80's RWS 24 in .177. For some reason I'm dead-on with that gun. I shoot mice with it these days.
Now I've gone to $500 PCP's and once again I don't miss often.

Note: Something else to consider with springers is altitude. I bought a new HW30 about 2 years ago and at my elevation (6500') it shot 100 fps slower than at AoA (1300').

These inexpensive rings, scope (both on Amazon) and this Buck Rail Mount will get your Sheridan back up and running again. View attachment 452005View attachment 452006
I just completed this Silver Streak with this above mentioned. Today is sight in day. Yesterday was incredibly windy but did get the scope on target.
