JCD thank you !! Just adjusted the power wheel from MIN back up to MAX, cocked the airgun and observed a much more abbreviated transition time between clunks when tilting, meaning your explanation explains what I'm hearing.

Ahh yesss... wondered about that !! I did notice an audible leak when pumping from zero pressure up to around 100 bar, then there was a sudden change in the loud hiss followed by a mellow "pop" seating sound. After that the leak was NOT audible without using the surgical-tube hearing doo-hickey...
