As the use of life extended SCBA's increases in the fire fighting, first responder and PCP worlds, NIOSH is looking to make a position statement. This primarily will deal with the use of life extended SCBA's used in NIOSH approved SCBA packs. If you want some interesting reading on the subject...

Did you see unlimited life carbon fibre cylinder?

I do not believe they have a DOT Special Permit number. Hence they would not be sold or allowed in the USA. At least to be transported in commerce. I may be wrong, but I would be surprised that it was truly a 3 piece design operating at this pressure. The black caps on either end are most...

Want to see what's inside an SCBA bottle?

The trade in is a great idea. We actually offer that on the fire SCBA side. Departments though seem to want their own ones back we have found rather than a swap out. But who knows in the future. Our drive is to get the best product out and don’t want to rush anything. Thanks again!

Want to see what's inside an SCBA bottle?

Tominco - you emailed in asking about this. I updated a different thread with the following: Currently Digital Wave is looking at adding that option for airgun owners. Life extension is a bit more complicated process than just a quick hydro test. Also, how do they handle cylinders that might...

Yes, I as well would like to hear about where you received your SP16320 stamped cylinders allowing 30 years use under DOT regulations. Those sound pretty cool.

    Free tank, will it work?

Did he say why they were taking them out of service? Is it because they are 15 years old? These SCBA and other carbon fiber vessels can only be used for 15 years. However, they can be life extended to 30 years of use from the original manufacture date. This life extension option is a...

Why are there no medium size air tanks?

Just so you know a bit more about these tanks, the US DOT must authorize their use in the USA in order to transport or fill them. They do this via issuing a Special Permit(SP) number to the tank manufacturer. As someone mentioned above Luxfer, SCI and also Carlton are the primary manufacturers...

    SCBA cylinders service life extension

Note - this particular cylinder will have a funky valve as these were used to inflate life rafts. It will not be the standard SCBA valve you have seen before.

Patpat7 - yes this one is applicable. You will see in the upper left corner "DOT E-11194". This is the Special Permit Exemption number that this cylinder was built to by Carleton. On the digital wave life extension page you will see this SP number listed. Other things to look at on this...
