You don’t always need a hunting license in California. You ALWAYS need one if you’re shooting any game animal. you can find this online in the hunting regulations, or go to your local Fish & Wildlife office and talk to the warden on duty

If you want homemade, go to Tractor Supply. Get a couple of electric fence posts and a bag of castration bands. Band them together 19-12” from the end. Spread them apart to use them. The pointed end will keep it steady. Aa couple friends had these when we went shooting ground squir.
